I am coaching my son's U10 rec soccer team, and am having difficulty with two kids who have been verbally fighting. For some reason that I don't understand yet, one of the kids resorts to insults against the other kid. I've talked to both kids, but it is still happening. I try to give empathy to the kids, using non-violent communication. I do not control the kids and how they react to each other, but there are things I can control. I want to focus on those things.

If you have some sort of "Women's Group", or even just a circle of women who go and get lunch together, intentionally and explicitly invite trans women. A lot of us are reluctant about proactively inviting ourselves to places that we might encounter TERFs.

Any typos spotted in this post are enjoying a cosy afternoon working while it's rainy and misty outside. If typos spotted, they'll be making a big pot of potato and leek soup and will be putting on their extra fluffy socks. It's that kind of vibe.

My children are very good at taking turns. They even take turns being sick. So I get to have one child with manic energy, and one child barfing everywhere. Twice!

Tonight I was reminded of my trip to Cabo Verde in April/May. My favorite part of that trip actually occurred in Casablanca.

I had a 12 hour layover so rode the light rail into the city. On the way back to the airport two women and a two year old sat next to me. In my (very) broken French we had a nice conversation about our kids.

She was trying to keep the two year old awake so she would take a proper nap when they got home instead of a 20 minute nap on the train. It was funny because not too long ago I was on the MAX in Portland with my daughter trying to keep her awake to take a proper nap when I got home.

Not that I’ve really had a problem with seeing humanity in others but it was just a really special and humanizing experience for me. Here I am on a train on a continent I’ve never been to before where they speak a language I barely fathom and here’s a family having exactly the same experience I had with my family.

Nov 3rd is election day and ballots are already reaching people by mail. It’s our chance to do something about things! We have very good reasons to get to the polls this time.

The TL;DR is Yes/No/No on propositions 40/41/42 to tax billionaires, and No/No/No on proposition D/E/F to keep the mayor accountable to the people, and Yes on the Regional Transit Measure to save our public transit.
