2/ went up University peak's north slope from Bench lake. I had hiked some of it the previous month to check it out. Enjoyed it. It gets fun near the top, lots of options. I'll go up that way again for sure. I've been up before on the south ridge from University pass.

1/ Mid August day trip revisiting a couple favorite peaks in a makeshift loop. Nice day, got a handful of pics but here's the TikTok book report video brief first. I enjoyed making these, too bad Relive (3d mapping app) only works 10% of the time now so it's too frustrating to even bother and I won't be using 'ai' to replace it. Nothing lasts.

2/ We went for an evening walk over to the base of old Army pass. Diva was ready to hike right up it but it wasn't the time for it right then. I proposed going back down to the lake for sunset where she seemed to enjoy watching the horizon color.

1/ Diva's second campout this summer was at Cottonwood Lakes. She took a liking to Lake 3 but I had my eyes on a spot I like at lake 4 which she also found agreeable. She's an easy hiking companion.

The live reaction to the accident described and simulated above.

So 10 days ago (last Sunday) I had a bizarre accident going down a slope after a peak. I've created an accurate simulation for visual aid. Everything happened quickly and yet in slow motion. I stepped on a 90ish pound rock the size of a small end table and it rolled over with me pinning my foot then bowling me down. I intentionally fell sideways to minimize how much of me it rolled over. I also tucked my arms in and sort of balled my core so it would keep rolling off me. Really spooked me, foot swelled quickly. I tightened my boot, limped 1.5 miles down to trail then the remaining 5.5 miles to the trailhead. I startled a couple while dirt napping in the dark at a trail junction. I insisted I was fine but accepted a pile of Ibuprofen. Been r.i.c.e'ing and the swelling and pain is down but xray shows inconclusive bone fracture so the doc wants me staying off my feet till he sees me Monday. He's being cautious. Doesn't feel any more than a rolled ankle, but we'll see.

5/ day five we packed up camp and left the ranger station. Ranger Amanda joined us as we cleared two large rockfalls going back up the Dusy switches then we parted ways and camped up in Dusy basin below Bishop pass for the night.

4/ day four brought rain but we hiked up the switches anyway and wrapped the rock work. We went south on JMT for the afternoon pruning overgrowth until the rain drove us back to camp.

7/ everything looked different with clouds in the sky on the way down

6/ hiked up the chute behind the lake in the morning. No real plan since weather was coming in the afternoon. I've been up this way before but I wanted to scout some things for a future trip. Meysan lake was full mouthwash opacity from the snowmelt compared to how clear it was earlier in the spring. Turned around with the cloud buildup.

5/ morning came quickly, dry night on the big rock. Happy I'd switched plans and gone up to start the day from the lake. Weather was going to stop me regardless so it was nice to day hike from up there.

4/ moonrise and remaining sunset color, saw one tent across the lake but didn't appear to be anyone else around.

3/ had dinner with sunset at the lake, eastern views but pretty light regardless

2/ going up the waterfall late in the day was particularly nice. Sort of a spontaneous evening but worth it. I was happy to get up to the lake while it was still light to find somewhere nice to camp.

1/ Late July trip to Meysan lake, passing the lower lakes on the way up. I knew weather the next day was going to stop me from doing much so I went up at the end of the day before to at least get a campout.

3/ by the third time the clouds built up it was obvious this was going to be the one so I moved quickly down to the trailhead and drove down to the valley to enjoy the storm. Fun to look back.

2/ clouds showcased and highlighted the surrounding peaks all day. Turned around half way up the north slope knowing weather would build for real soon. Great views from University peak even not on the summit. I've summited from University pass and University shoulder on the other side so I was wasn't concerned about summiting. I was mostly scouting this route for a future trip and I was happy with what I saw.

1/ went up University Peak's north slope earlier in the summer but got turned around by weather (went back later for a larger trip). Still a very pretty day above Bench and Matlock lakes. Waves of clear skies and cloud buildup that increased each time made for dramatic skies.

3/ Second summit of the day was Falcor peak. I was excited to hike the ridge and to get up on this peak for the first time. It has a striking shape and colorway that stands out from all directions. Been looking at it for a while from both sides and neighboring mountains. Good to be there, cute little register in a bottle going back decades.

2/ digging up some pics from back on this day. Clear and crisp morning. University peak looked gorgeous on the way up. Mt Gould was first. Been up there many times so it was fun to carry on down the ridge toward Falcor peak after.
