🐍 When I say "black snake", it's the short form we use for the Black Ratsnake, one of my favorite snakes ever. Great climbers and take care of rodents, without poisons. This is why you never see one in Home Depot in the rodenticide section.
Anyway, it was behind the oven where I could not grab it. When I tried a kitchen grabber, it went deep into the oven works.
So now we have a new plan to execute after dinner.
Came out of the shower one day hear Sherbert screaming (yes, again). When I got to her I saw why she was screaming. There was a 4' ratsnake hanging on three sides of a painting, which happened to be close to Sherb's cage.
I had to call Animal Control because I would have hurt myself trying to capture it.
Good luck with your little friend!
@Lorraine 😆 Good story! They are always awkward guests in the house.
Awkward is a word. 😉
Oct 15, 2026, 8:40 PM@joewynne well at least you have a fun evening to look forward to! It’s always fun extracting a snake without harming it.
Oct 15, 2026, 8:44 PM@joewynne a semi related story from when I was a teenager. I caught a king snake about 2 feet long while it was crossing the road. I was in route to a female friend’s house to pick her up to bring her back to the house and we were gonna hang out.
Anyway, the snake got loose and I didn’t bother to mention this to her. So when we got back to my house and me, my dad and my brother had to remove the backseat of my car to find the snake to remove it, she was livid.
@Da_Gut 😂
@joewynne
We had one in our toilet, once. It ran all the squirrels out of the attic before that, though, so it kind of made up for the surprise.
@cshlan 😆
