Seriously, you all are f'ing great. I have _never_ felt so _accepted_ in a group or community like I do _here_.
I love you, FediFriends. You all warm my cold, shriveled, nihilistic heart. <3

One of my favorite writers—as delightful in person as in print
Heh. I misremembered the date--thought it was today, but looks like it was October 5. On that day, 10 years ago, I posted a link to Mastodon on Hacker News, with the title "Show HN: A new decentralized microblogging platform". That it made it to the front page ended up bringing the first 5,000 users, setting the project on the trajectory it's on today.
For this week's jukebox music theme, Peace and Calm, here's an old jazz classic with a relaxing beat, a loose easy-going tune, and sunny lyrics.
"On the Sunny Side of the Street", written by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields, sung by the legendary Ella Fitzgerald.
"Grab your coat and get your hat,
Leave your worries on the doorstep,
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street...
...I used to walk in the shade
with my blues on parade
But I'm not afraid,
'Cause this rover's crossed over.
If I never have a cent,
I'll be rich as Rockefeller,
Gold dust at my feet,
On the sunny side of the street."

Seated for Coyote vs Acme because I care about tort reform.
Turner Classic Movies is running classic horror (and just creepy) movies all day today.
I'd like to highlight these from around 100 years ago 😬:
🔸 The Mystic 1925
🔸 West of Zanzibar 1928 (based on Hayes-banned play, Lon Chaney vs. Lionel Barrymore, early synchronized soundtrack)
It amazes me that so many of the themes and tropes we know today filmmakers were using from the beginning.
Oh, and don't forget Godzilla 1955. Beginning of a somewhat popular franchise.

The programme for the European Permaculture Convergence 2027 will grow from the community.
From today onwards, the Call for Sessions is open to everyone.
We are looking forward to seeing what people across Europe would like to share, explore and discuss together - from practical projects and design work to community initiatives, teaching, research and new ideas.
What would you like to see on the programme?

And if someone comes to mind who could bring an interesting session, feel free to tag them!

🐍 When I say "black snake", it's the short form we use for the Black Ratsnake, one of my favorite snakes ever. Great climbers and take care of rodents, without poisons. This is why you never see one in Home Depot in the rodenticide section.
Anyway, it was behind the oven where I could not grab it. When I tried a kitchen grabber, it went deep into the oven works.
So now we have a new plan to execute after dinner.
Black snake in the house. Stay tuned.
Hey y'all. Does the follower count matter to you ? And do you use it as a measurement of how trustworthy someone is here on Mastodon?
I'm just curious. I know I can look it up but I like having additional source of info.
Boosts aren't mandatory but appreciated. Besides I'll make my own conclusions eventually...

OK, today is first day of early voting and we are about to leave for the site closest to us. Will it be busy? What do you think?

I'm in it. So is @planet4589.bsky.social. So are my goats and my llama! (RIP llama. Glad he was immortalized in such a key role in this film hahaha)
The director described it to me as "Depressing. But with goats!" It's truly a beautiful film and I hope lots of you get to watch it.
It is lovely to see this interview about #dontopenthatdoorbook in the The Scientist magazine
