Oct 15, 2026, 2:09 PMIs there any reason to preorder Apple TV? Ie do we expect them to not be easily available in stores?

ArchimageSergKoren@writing.exchangeOct 15, 2026, 2:14 PM@dimsumthinking nope. And unless you want the Adrian, go with the 2022 model. Pretty much identical.
CM Harringtonoctothorpe@mastodon.onlineOct 15, 2026, 2:17 PM@dimsumthinking nope. But also… is it imperative to have one day one? Like, is there a contest or something?
Steve Rigginssteveriggins@mastodon.socialOct 15, 2026, 2:26 PM@octothorpe @dimsumthinking if one is building a new home and wants one when the internet is ready and wants to keep the current Apple TV at the old home until it sells so one can see security cameras then getting one as early as possible is helpful to one and I am likely the only one like this.

@steveriggins @dimsumthinking but you can just pick up the old one at any best buy or walmart or whatever.

@octothorpe @steveriggins I’m upgrading because my current one doesn’t support tv os 27 - I’m not sure that’s enough of a reason

@dimsumthinking @steveriggins probably not. It would make sense if the device couldn’t do something the TV could (ex: Dolby Vision II or whatever)… but an OS update? Streamers have every incentive to make sure their stuff runs on a 30 year old toaster oven. Eventually yes, app updates may stop, but the service will still work fine.

@octothorpe @steveriggins omg it is so refreshing to be arguing about this topic - nice respite

@dimsumthinking @steveriggins I mean, if we can’t be kinda silly about things, what’s the point?!

@dimsumthinking I hate autocorrect. Siri AI not Adriaan.
Jeff Watkinsjeffwatkins@mastodon.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:43 PM@dimsumthinking I can’t think of anything essential in the new Apple TV.
