honestly, I think NLNet and other orgs handing out funding for open source projects should be taking a hardline stance on this when it comes to awarding grants.

@djsundog If they don't, it's just a corporate subsidy.

@mhoye @djsundog it’s not expressly forbidden, but the reporting requirements are excessively difficult to comply with, especially for the YOLO vibe coder crowd.
But, also, the grants work by giving you a pre-agreed sum when you complete milestone. If you’ve spent half that on tokens… well that’s just less money in your own pocket. They’re not spending any more for the same outcome.

@djsundog I know when I was awarded my grant from NLNet they said no LLMs allowed. I was quite pleased with this.
I think they have maybe softened that stance somewhat but I can't remember for sure.

@ridley yeah, I hope they actually enforce that, but I’m for sure seeing projects funded via NLNet getting all cozy with agents.md and claude.md and skills crap and I’m just like “why would you think this is cool and okay”

@ridley @djsundog at least it’s a ccTLD for an actual country, that dates back to long before the current trend of gTLDs

@ridley @djsundog Moldova existed before Markdown after all
for that matter, Dragostea din tei (the one Moldovan song everyone’s heard of) existed a year before Markdown
