#Scam #Alert: There's another wave of "Registration/Verification" scams going on right now. I've suspended several today.
Mastodon admins will *never* message you to go click links or other shit like that to fix/save/unblock/verify/etc your account.
Any account with variations on "helper", "notification", "verification", and so on in their name are almost certainly a scam.
Report them.
Oct 13, 2026, 2:33 AMI got this one a little while ago, I blocked and reported it.

@alice Reported a bunch of these recently. I hope they got promptly stomped.
I would fall for a free cat scam :blobcatrainbow:
@alice oii??? like mine ?
@alice If you entered your password, open your instance’s site directly rather than following the DM. Change the password, review active sessions and authorized apps, and enable 2FA. Report the fake account so your instance’s moderators can act.
@alice Thanks for the info.
I’ve never come across a single scam on Mastodon and extremely rarely on other social media platforms (1x on FB). In 15 years, maybe 2 or 3 at most via text message on smartphone (whether on Android or iOS).
I should point out that my security measures are very basic (antivirus, adblocker, anti-script, VPN for porn, no notifications, no geolocation, and I’m still – shame on me, I'm lazy – on Win11).
Am I just lucky, or is it down to the servers I visit or log into?
@LeLutin_SurLeMur you should buy a lottery ticket with that luck!
I've also worked in trust & safety, fraud, and infosec roles, but dang, I see thousands of these scams on the regular 😅
@alice Apparently, my luck only seems to hold in areas that don’t make any money :D
I hope my message shares a bit of my ‘luck’ with you.
Take care.
