@Dianora @finn Alternatively, the bits of English stolen from French were stolen more recently than the bits from German, so you can still see the joins. And really, a lot of that should be considered different from the bits stolen from Norman French, which came in between, and accounts for why English people can't pronounce lieutenant.

@rupert @finn Oh yes! What I found interesting were the bits of Old Norse I have seen look an awful lot like Old English (One of the dialects of O.E. anyway)!
