You see, the thing about principles is that you need to hold to them not just when it's convenient. If you only reject LLM use when the results are bad but jump on board when the output suits you, you’re telling me that the externalities were never truly the issue. You just liked hearing yourselves say it. (2/2)

One addition: principles without tolerance (for the principles of the others) is a fanaticism. Unfortunately, for the last 20+ years, this is what happens with our society— pro and anti vaccines, pro and anti AfD, pro and anti Trump, pro and anti AI … in a fanatic way.

To reach 95% of astronomers or molecular biologists, as I know these two groups, one needs to go to Twitter. The question then becomes: is the future development of science more important than the fanatic rejection of a billionaire who also advanced US space and astronomy?

Just goes to show that all those tech people that got on their high-horses about Musk/X, actually value their egos more as they can’t seem to live without the ‘audiences’ they built there originally and can’t replicate elsewhere.

The ATP crew have always been scrupulously transparent when talking about products that have been past or present sponsors. Their Claude sponsorships are no exception. In any case, I’m pretty sure they make most of their money from memberships, not sponsors.
It’s abundantly clear to me that all 3 would be using LLMs for their work (coding or otherwise) and talking about it, regardless of whether an AI company had sponsored them or not. You can tell that by the genuine enthusiasm they show when talking about them.
LLMs are a tool. They can be used for good and evil, just like many other tools. I see no incoherence in what the ATP crew are doing. They use LLMs, they talk about them, they acknowledge that there are also problems with them, how they were built and how they might be used.

LLMs are now fact of life, they exist, they cannot be uninvented, resistance to them is as futile as the resistance that existed against the steam engine, or the internet. Good luck with that.
