HomePod mini History

https://github.com/Ducksss/codex-profiles is a Codex/ChatGPT profile switcher, utterly irrelevant for me and this post

-- but what I find worrisome as a macOS dev is that this is a macOS AppKit app code repo with
53% Shell script
24% Swift
rest is web tech.

That's not how I build my AppKit apps

Everyone, I have a suggestion: New Skill November.

Do I know someone with a charging station where you have cables _and_ magnetic/Qi charging that is happy with it and can recommend the product? Goal wouldn't be fancy display, just to have something in the living room to put phones and earbuds onto to charge

Spend two hours reading and taking notes on Swift async streams/channels and backpressure.

You can't reason about backpressure locally. You need to inspect the chain and potentially all function calls within a consumer -- and consequentially keep the amount of hops minimal to help reason about it.

Swift doesn't show backpressure; it's a property of the chain from producer to consumer to how it handles elements during its consumption.

That's tough.

Today, 10 years ago, we pushed our first tag #KeePassXC 2.0.3-http after forking from KeePassX: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/releases/tag/2.0.3-http

This first pre-release was the result of cleaning up and merging stalled pull requests from the original KeePassX repository, including the long-awaited browser integration (back then still based on the keepasshttp protocol). Three months later, in January 2017, we finally released the first stable KeePassXC version 2.1.0. 🧵 1/2

Do you have any #gdcr recommendations to create a day for software craft in a climate of "my day job is all about AI and I don't know how to apply what I learned and how to grow"?

I have some hunches but would love to hear your takes.

Inktober 2026 #9, RAM

Come with me on an adventure.

"King Aldwin lies poisoned. The great houses circle like jackals. Sir Alaric climbed to the Ram of Frostmere to learn who would be king. The Ram spoke his name."

What a great read!

You see, the thing about principles is that you need to hold to them not just when it's convenient. If you only reject LLM use when the results are bad but jump on board when the output suits you, you’re telling me that the externalities were never truly the issue. You just liked hearing yourselves say it. (2/2)

i wonder how you reconcile the fcc saying you cant show female nipples on tv or say the word 'fuck' at all, but you can televise a live execution

Since we’re changing names on maps so often these days, I’m thinking we call a spade a spade and go with the United Failed States of America.

Despicable fascist horror. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmy0r96xygx6o

"I'll just go to the big box store and grab a thingie to close the water pipe and then we can turn on the main valve again" he thought

The thingie has no standard size it seems

An hour wasted, still no water.

I like this line of thinking

This is a neat website.

When does AI code with AI review turn the code base into a meaningless, machine made artifacts instead of an (implied human) artifact?

"LGMT" is an AI generated music video about AI coding and how it leads to doom

The cautionary chorus: "millions of lines, and nobody on earth knows what it possibly means" -- the crux there is that it has no meaning because no meaning was part of the depicted procedure

How AI model collapse works in real time.

Technically, I describe the problem here

Or you could just watch this video.

I can get Mircea Eliade's "Religious History" books in Turkish for reasonable prices, but not the English originals. Huh.

When running a web server gets expensive because of all the scraping:

"Fundamentally these AI companies are now charging me to train their models for them. I am now being billed $2,700 per month, $32,000 per year, so that their spicy-autocomplete plagiarism-machines can suck the blood out of everything I've ever created and shit it back out."
