    Thinking remains an option. Controversial... but it might even be a superpower by now.

    @edwinb I remain depressed by the failure to consider the enormous energy inefficiency of these wildly stupid machines. They burn the world. I eat rice.

    @pigworker I remain convinced that everything they do can be done much cheaper and quicker by just thinking a little bit. It's so frustrating.

    Meanwhile, yes, the planet is burning. I refuse to drive even though I can and it would make my life a lot easier. Why do I bother?

    @edwinb And in respect of "Why do I bother?", I think you'll find there's a perfectly rational Marxist explanation.

    Not entirely unrelatedly, I shall retire in two years' time, unless the world convinces me it has recovered enough of its sanity to pay me for what I do. I shall go to the trouble of asking.

    @pigworker Well. I continue to bother because it's the right thing to do.

    I don't know if I can get away with retiring for a while yet, but I definitely see the appeal. Whatever, I will continue the occasional appeals for sanity, for whatever they are worth.

    @pigworker I didn't expect anything less :).

    Unrelated, or maybe not entirely unrelated, I would like to come and talk about OTT and other things if you have time in the not too distant future...
