@davidrevoy Now I have Johnny Cashs "Ring of Fire" stuck in my head...🤣
@davidrevoy
The fact that it's the Avian Intelligence writing in the book instead of the faculty member is... distressing.
@davidrevoy Meat Proxy! YMMD 😂
@davidrevoy I learnt the word 'meat proxy' this week and I love throwing it around
@davidrevoy What does PyroCircus actually do then?
@ariarhythmic @davidrevoy It casts a ring of fire, rather than the fireball you'd get by casting "PyroBolus". (I should know, since I was the one that came up with that spell.) You could also try casting "PyroTriangulus Aequilaterus" to draw a flaming pointer into the air.
Just don't confuse any of them with "Ignisme", or your eyebrows will not be the only part of your body that's on fire.
@farbenstau @davidrevoy Hm, so the AI did give the correct response this time?
@ariarhythmic Unless @davidrevoy wants to troll me and my spellcasting skills really hard, I would indeed hope so, yes.😉
@farbenstau @ariarhythmic Yes, I had to give that to the Parrot; correct answer for once. 😆
But I really was tempted by putting again "IgnisMe"...
@davidrevoy @ariarhythmic Well, Cepper probably would have remembered that as being the wrong spell, and, in a fit of anger, would have cast and aimed a PyroBolus at that dang thing.
@farbenstau @davidrevoy Assuming "Pyro" is to conjure a shape of fire, and "Ignis" is to set fire to someone or something that is already physical, how would you, as an alternative to PyroBolus, direct "Ignis" at a parrot?
@ariarhythmic @davidrevoy IgnisAvum might be worth a try. I'd describe it as "Fry the bird".
@farbenstau @davidrevoy What language are we grabbing those words from, anyway?
If you have a magic system, better make sure it follows consistent conventions.
@ariarhythmic @davidrevoy Latin, like every mage of culture would, of course. Only savages cast their spells in ancient Greek.
@farbenstau @davidrevoy So spells are actually language-agnostic, and the choice is up to the caster? One of those systems where the chanting only serves to help with structure, and can be skipped given skill? That wouldn't seem right, given what we've seen so far.
And if there's a super special magic language, it needs to be consistent.
@ariarhythmic @farbenstau @davidrevoy It would beg the question of why that language though? What is listening?
Geometric & symbolic stuff not chosen by the user likewise carries the same question.
Sometimes the physics of the world really do differ in that kind of way, but often the question is ignored entirely.
@lispi314 @davidrevoy @farbenstau It's a very good question, and it's why I don't really like systems that have a specific magic language
MFT does not seem to have a consistent magic language, anyway. It's more along the lines of words helping channel intention, but this would then beg the question: why are spells not in plain English?
@ariarhythmic @lispi314 @davidrevoy Why are US K-9 units using German commands for their dogs?
@farbenstau @ariarhythmic @davidrevoy Those are explicitly arbitrary commands.
(A standardized choice is still an arbitrary choice. It doesn't imply any fundamental physical underpinnings.)
That was chosen by upstream, but there is absolutely no reason users can't choose otherwise.
@lispi314 @davidrevoy @ariarhythmic No, no no. We use these languages to hide their meaning from, and to install fear in the uninitiated. That's Evil Wizardry 101.
@lispi314 @davidrevoy @ariarhythmic (You're one of those pristine white mages that never attended any of the "Evil" courses at the magical university, for fear of corrupting yourself, eh?🤡)
@lispi314 @davidrevoy @ariarhythmic You know what would really help speed up that process? Avian Intelligence! (Just Kidding, Just Kidding, no need to cast IgnisMagus, no, please …)
@farbenstau @lispi314 @davidrevoy @ariarhythmic this entire thread was an amusing rabbit hole to follow
@lispi314 @davidrevoy @farbenstau @ariarhythmic
I'm sorry, now you have to read this:

I'm sorry I have to push you down this rabbit hole.
@davidrevoy Well, there is a chance, to help with this. The parrot could be only kind of right and PyroCircus is a ring of fire, but turning inwards - burning her once again, while PyroKyklos / IgnisCircus would have been the one Cepper is instead searching for. It would have been not exactly the wrong answer, technically speaking, but a typical prompter-A.I. mistake, wouldn't it? 😈 Also, a would be reminiscence to the "Can you eat [poison mushroom]"-problem.
@davidrevoy , does it burn ?
@davidrevoy Ouch.
@davidrevoy
"AI meat proxy" is brilliant!
@davidrevoy Yay! It's "my" spell finally being mentioned!
@farbenstau Thank you again for your idea of "PyroCircus" It's short, effective, and the one not knowing a bit of latin roots will find it suspicious (like in a circus with clowns, etc...) , perfect!
@davidrevoy @farbenstau ("pyro" is greek though 😋 flamma or ignis would be latin, but i'm just nitpicking, you're talking about "ancient languages" and everyone understands this )
@davidrevoy
do you have to rename it to Super Intelligence now? 🤔
@davidrevoy
heh sometimes there are errors, human or ai,.. i always hit the books for a third opinion,..
@davidrevoy Please tell me PyroCircus actually summons a bunch of flaming clowns
Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, maybe?
@davidrevoy Soooo... With Trump renaming Artificial Intelligence to Super Intelligence, can we also expect to get a new name for Avian Intelligence? Like Awesome Intelligence, for example? 😂
@davidrevoy Yup, SHE'S FRIGGIN' USELESS.
@davidrevoy Ring of Fire? Start with one bowl of vindaloo...
@davidrevoy You‘re wonderfulll comics getting darker … but we are in dark times
@davidrevoy Excellent💙
The same thing could be said of search engines. On the one hand, It's handy when you are talking with friends, and you all are trying to remember something, and now you can just look it up
However, It also means that every halfwit with access to the Internet suddenly thinks he knows everything
@davidrevoy Quite a lot changed in the speedpaint. Fox fire mage is a good final choice, I think
@LonM Yes, thank you for watching the timelapse. The first draft had some issues: with a young male mage: the main cause of a refactor to a female mage: it was looking like she wanted to get the info by flirting with him. That was a reading of the comic I wanted to exclude. (and also a womanVSman debate that had no place in this one)
@davidrevoy It is not only the (side-)character, that changed. The whole tone is very different and the setting as well. In the first iteration it was a lot more aggressive. Not sure, which I prefer more, but would like to read your thought behind those changes. I have to confess though, I like Ceppers dress in the 1st iteration more, even if inconsistent to last episode. 😇
The time-laps are always interesting, but this one in particular - thank you very much for sharing - love it! 🥰
@LonM
@jerk @LonM Thank you :) Yes, timelapses are more interesting when I struggle and change my mind mid way.
For the more agressive final panel "Meat proxy, Meat proxies everywhere!" , I changed it because it's a bit hard to blame a generality with showing just a single case.
Also, by changing the hesitant apprentice to a sorceress of fire, with an also interesting design, I think I made their relation more equal, peer to peer.
@davidrevoy I agree to that. Also it's interesting to see, that the apprentice would have been surprised and kinda shocked being addressed, while the sorceress looks as bored as hell. A nice double twist, maybe. Could mean, she thinks, she is superior, or in reality she is really bored of her life, loosing all her own magical creativity for exchange of the "magic", A.I. brings, maybe both. I like to read it in any of that ways, but especially the second one.
@davidrevoy Time to hoard the last few books that haven't been burnt, or maybe a dragon has already hoarded them & will let us read them.
Why does she have a book though?
@agowa338 She is not reading it, she is writing it, Avian Intelligence assisted. 😔
@davidrevoy I doubt that any meat proxy would be writing a book themselves. Tbh I doubt they'd even write their shopping list themselves...
It looked like the parrots wing was holding the quill to me
didn't even see that at first. Lol, that changes everything then.
@davidrevoy uuuuurgh
@davidrevoy If you say it loud enough you’ll always seem PYROCIRCUS. Supercaliexpialdous.
👍🏻
