Aug 15, 2026, 3:28 PMFun word fact of the day. “Omelette” was originally “nomlette.” It changed by rebracketing in the 16th century: a nomlette -> an omelette. A small piece of original survives today, as the source of the word “nom,” onomatopoeia for eating.
Source: etymonline to look up a reasonable rebracketing date. Everything else extremely made up.
