here are three ways I reframe things when people talk to me about “AI” IRL (my little contribution to resistance):

    1) people use words that describe AI in ways we describe humans, e.g., “hallucinating,” or “trained to be (moral)”

response: AI cannot hallucinate or be trained; humans can be trained & can hallucinate. It is outputting wrong answers because its inputs were flawed. It outputs an expected tone that confirms your biases about morality because a human programmed it to 1/3

    2) people parrot the narrative that AI is a transformational technology and inevitable.

response: ask them where they heard it, who said it. ask where the person they cited heard it. ask them to link back to the original source of the claim.

(narrator: it’s an AI company making that claim.)

do you trust a study commissioned by a tobacco company telling you smoking is not harmful?

    3) people use the phrase, “AI is going to replace your job.”

response: employers and your leaders/CEOs are eliminating jobs because it makes their balance sheets look better & for many of them, will benefit their shareholders & annual bonuses.

it has nothing to do with AI, and everything to do with the OG motivation for all of them (and what greatly helps them climb to those positions): greed.
