@jon_valdes Yes, something like that! The grid is constructed as you build, guided by existing buildings and terrain (both gradient and eigenvalues of the hessian). You can also adjust it a bit by moving corners around.

@bottosson.bsky.social That said, I've been thinking all along with this project that I haven't been getting the same "cosy" or "inviting" vibe as with Townscaper, and I've struggled to put my finger on why. Now that you have colored walls, it's even harder to figure out why. Could be the untextured walls, or the highly reflective windows, or the less inset windows and doors, or perhaps something about the lighting. Hope I can figure it out, as it would help my own projects too.

@mb21 @runevision yeah, I’ve been thinking about this quite a lot myself as well. I definitely want a bit more realistic proportions and to have architecture a bit closer to real world, but that also makes some common “tricks” hard to apply

Also left to add is to make everything less sterile is more dirt/weathering as well as potted plants and other details. I also want to do a pass over windows, adding more details and some kind of interior representation.

@bjornornorn @mb21 Right, “sterile” is also a word I had in my head and I think your stated plans for details and changes is very likely to address it. The tiled roofs for example already feel more inviting to me than some of the other aspects. I’m looking forward to follow the further evolution!
