    Oh noooo... Immediate energy crisis.

Let's build a 1GW nuclear steam engine that takes two decades to build, will have unpredictable cost overruns (2x-7x?) . It requires de-facto upfront amnesty for any damage it could do from the government.

This is gonna solve all our energy problems especially we will never have to buy uranium from a petrostate ever again.

@missqarnstein it would be wise to keep using the already existing 8 GWe capacity… and maybe shut down the lignite with the same nameplate capacity instead. but that’s not good because we could do that right now and not in 10 years time.

@uint8_t might have been, sure i've been arguing for shutting down coal before replacing nuclear 20 years ago... The decision was made thou, and then the plants were operated with a shutdown date in mind. They would all have needed a severe overhaul to keep them going 4 years ago. Thus they were shut down even thou we also were in an energy crisis, i doubt the plants are in better condition now after 4 years not operating. So no i don't think we can pull the plastic wrap down from the machines and pull the free energy lever.

That's all ancient politics that won't solve anything now.
