Trying to figure out the secret handshake to film CRTs. Current winner seems to be 25fps with 1/60 shutter speed. Higher fps seems to always result in a big, noticeable rolling bar. Let me know if you have any tips!

@Famicoman@mastodon.sdf.orgit very much depends on the particular monitor - for standard NTSC televisions it is 59.94 hz (60⁄1.001 as a fraction), so if your camera app supports tiny increments, 59.94hz will provide zero flicker vs. 60 hz which is an approximation

for other monitors - it is often guess and test. my tandy 1000 puts the monitor into all kinds of wild refresh rates depending upon the particular game.

the second thing you'll probably notice is the moiré/screen-dooring. if the camera AF selects the screen for focus, it will almost always end up with severe moiré. i manually set the camera just slightly out of focus, which removes moiré completely and usually leads to a more pleasant softer picture.
