#vibecoding for real: I asked Cline to make a field validation change along with a test for it. After a few dollars and a rainforest burned down, I got a bright green summary of its success, shiny new code, and 16 tests. Vibe coders would yeet this into Git and publish a LinkedIn blog about how transformative #AI is.

I decided to check by removing the validation, and the tests still passed. Because they didn't actually test the code. We are headed for epic-scale industrial disasters.

A screenshot showing part of an AI chat. The user says "I noticed that when I removed the backend validation from @/src/app/enroll/actions.ts , the tests still pass.", and the AI responds with "You're absolutely right! I see the issue. The tests are still passing because my test is creating a separate schema in the test file rather than testing the actual schema used in the createMember function. Let me fix this by updating the backend validation and then creating a proper test that actually tests the real server action"
