I have a question for the international train travel experts. I live in Germany and have a 15 days in 2 months interrail ticket for the autumn. I'll be leaving and returning to Germany twice, so I have to buy some tickets. I'm travelling from Brussels into Germany and my question is: do you know if I'll get into trouble for split ticketing if I use my interrail pass from Brussels to Liége-Guillemins and buy a ticket from L-G to Aachen while staying on the same ICE? @jon @partim @kupfers

@amyisard @jon @kupfers In addition to what Jon said: You can now buy only the bit from the border to the first German station via a special link provided by DB: https://int.bahn.de/en/buchung/start?KL=2&ET=PASSZUSCHLAG
(this also works at a DB booking office).
You would want the “Passzuschlag One Country Pass.” For Belgian border to Aachen it is EUR 4.10 in second and EUR 7.40 in first class.
So, check how much a domestic Sparpreis from Aachen is and how much a Sparpreis Europa from Liège would be and then split accordingly.

@partim @amyisard @jon … and if you forget that link you can buy it from Belgian rail with a 100% discount for Belgium (on the [mobile] website or in the app). At least that is how I usually did it in the past. Was just tricky this summer with mandatory reservation often being booked out.

@partim @amyisard @jon That appears to be the price on the Belgian IC. App right now says ICE 2nd is 3,75 and 1st is 6,80 without any BahnCard. But you can add those there if you have any
