Seen at a cinema (aka movie theater) in Philadelphia.

I enjoyed attending the Workshop on Language Technologies for Historical and Ancient Languages on the first day of #LREC2026 and also later in the day meeting someone for the first time in real life (@tschfflr) who I know from the fediverse!

This looks like a really intersting job for a techy cat lover. https://careers.cats.org.uk/job/851046 @astronomerritt maybe for you?

Does anyone know of projects which have encoded a linguistic grammar in TEI format? I have been able to find documentation about and various examples of dictionaries and corpora, but so far no grammars. #TEI

I combined two of my hobbies at the weekend - the 3rd bassoon/contrabassoon part in Bruckner’s 8th symphony has quite a few bars rest so I took my knitting along to the rehearsal. #knitting #bassoon

I met a lovely cat in a shop in Bremen today. #CatsOfMastodon #ShopCats

Now the gift has been unwrapped, I can finally show the Tea Rex mug here! Much appreciated by the recipient :-) @Fuchskind

Can anyone recommend an introduction to css course which would suit someone with a design background and limited html and programming knowledge? I have a friend who would like to start learning but doesn't know where best to start and if you search online the options are overwhelming! @sarajw

I have a question for the international train travel experts. I live in Germany and have a 15 days in 2 months interrail ticket for the autumn. I'll be leaving and returning to Germany twice, so I have to buy some tickets. I'm travelling from Brussels into Germany and my question is: do you know if I'll get into trouble for split ticketing if I use my interrail pass from Brussels to Liége-Guillemins and buy a ticket from L-G to Aachen while staying on the same ICE? @jon @partim @kupfers

@jon I was wearing my 2023 #CrossBorderRail t-shirt at an orchestra rehearsal yesterday and another player who rides a Birdy (and likes ICEs) asked me where I got it because she would like one too! Is it still possible to order one? The site I ordered it from last year doesn’t list them any more. (The picture shows me wearing the t-shirt on a train.)

We’re off on a #CrossBorderRail trip from Hamburg to Torino for a conference, and stage one is Hamburg to Zürich today. The train journey has got 2 hours longer since we booked, and on the way to the station the DB app told us the train was leaving almost two hours later (but not at the original time) and then took it back less than a minute later. Everyone on the platform was visibly relieved when the train turned up.

@meow_factor I got Purrieties of Language for Christmas and another member of the family is also very pleased!

I just discovered that it's free to register for virtual attendance of SIGDIAL/INLG next week, so I did! https://sigdialinlg2023.github.io/ Lots of interesting looking presentations, I hope I'll have time to take in quite a few. #SIGDIALxINLG2023

I’m planning a trip from Germany to the UK in September, by train as I usually do, and this time I’ve bought an interrail 4 days in one month ticket, as recommended by @jon and others, since Eurostar tickets are so expensive at the times I want to travel that it’s cheaper even for just a return trip.

I’m not attending #CHI2023 but really enjoyed watching the keynote “The Human Element in Cybercrime and Cybersecurity” by @evawolfangel on youtube. The talk itself starts at about 55.43 after the conference opening session. https://www.youtube.com/live/LKUMRTLV49g?t=3343

catfart is the new bullshit

🐈‍💨 is my new emoji proposal for ChatGPT, based on the (already widely mentioned) French pronunciation "chat: j’ai pété" = "cat: I farted".
(Emojis are cat facing to the left followed by puff of wind heading to the right)
