Because of Mastodon's excellent search functionality, I'm struggling to find who posted Expert in a Dying Field by The Beths in a thread about being a software developer at the moment. If by any chance you see this, thanks, it's such a good song!

I love it when, in order to book a holiday club for my children in England, I have to tick a box agreeing to a 14 A4-page policy including a clause that I must not “provide material support or resources (or to conceal or disguise the nature, location, source, or ownership of material support or resources) to any organization(s) designated by the United States government as a foreign terrorist organization pursuant to Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act”.
It's fine.
A few years ago I dropped my left earbud down a high street drain. I bought another complete set so that I would have a spare case and right earbud. Naturally it's the left bud that I've lost a second time.
I was trying to talk about a magazine called "The Phoenix" with my wife without our kids understanding. I wanted to say “firebird” in German but forgot the word „Vogel“, panicked, and said „Feuerhund“. (I was going for „Feuerhuhn“ but I'm not sure that would have been much better.)
Things you do not want to see on the bottom of the script for your 6-year-old child's whole-class assembly about the Great Fire of London:
“This assembly was co-constructed with Co-Pilot. No pupil names were used.”

Boy am I glad that this unsubscribe form obfuscated my email address so effectively!
In a top-down 2D game where the player-character is normally centred in the viewport but can move to the edges at the boundaries of the level: should spatial audio be based on the camera or the player-character?Are the speakers playing what the player-character's ears can hear; or what we can see on screen?
(HD280pro are closed-back but for Reasons I find the isolation unpleasant now, so it feels like a good opportunity to try open-back.)
In September 2009 I bought some Sennheiser HD280pro headphones. 17 years and two pad replacements later, the right channel has finally stopped working. I'll try to fix it but the internet suggests they are tricky to repair.
Any recommendations for good *open-back* headphones that aren't ruinously expensive?
Better guitarists than me: there's this little two-bar solo in I Feel The Earth Move by Carole King, around 1:27. I've been playing it as transcribed below, with two changes of position (from 10th fret to 8th fret at the end of the first beat, then to 7th fret a couple of beats later). I've just realised I could play it all on the 10th fret, but for some reason it seems harder to play there. How would you play it?
A family friend wanted to check the local football team's uniform colours so he... opened Gemini and started yelling a long query at his phone. In the time it took for him to realise he hadn't hit the "microphone" button, I opened a search engine, spoke "[area] football team strip", and got the image results. He knows how to use computers pretty well, but he's voluntarily using a slower and less accurate interface! I don't understand!!
I wrote some cheesy elevator music for a scene in our game, which did not make it through build review but I still think is kind of fun. #strudel
I was curious about how the GNOME Screenshot Window Sizer extension handles hidpi/scaled displays. I went and looked at the extension source and to my surprise found my own name listed as a contributor. Checking the history, I made one contribution, in 2016, to... handle hidpi displays.
My home network is a trio of 2nd-gen Eeros: one connected to the ONT; one purely wireless; and one connected via wires in the walls and a switch under the stairs. The latter periodically drops down to 100 Mbps on the wired link — slower than my fibre connection. Whenever I plug my laptop in with the same cable to the same port, it gets 1000 Mbps and can max out the fibre connection. Eero is great when it works but opaque when something doesn't work... any diagnostic/debugging tips, internet?

Zed's podman+devcontainers support has never worked for me before today, when I tried `setenforce 0` and now it works perfectly. It's always selinux!
