Now nearing its 10th birthday, KeePassXC has evolved a lot, and very little reminds you today of what the software was back then. When we started, we never imagined we would once maintain a project used and loved by millions of people. Thank you all!

Today, 10 years ago, we pushed our first tag #KeePassXC 2.0.3-http after forking from KeePassX: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/releases/tag/2.0.3-http
This first pre-release was the result of cleaning up and merging stalled pull requests from the original KeePassX repository, including the long-awaited browser integration (back then still based on the keepasshttp protocol). Three months later, in January 2017, we finally released the first stable KeePassXC version 2.1.0. 🧵 1/2
🎉 We're happy to announce #KeePassXC version 2.8.0-beta1!
This is the first test release of our next major update, which brings you an upgrade to Qt6, Auto-Type on Wayland, remote sync, ARM64 builds for Windows, and much more.

Here's your regular reminder to always check where you're downloading things from. #KeePassXC 's website is https://keepassxc.org.
Do not blindly trust search results or AI answers at the top!
RE: https://mastodon.social/@bagder/116554421875449945
"All modern AI models are good at this now. Anyone with time and some experimental spirits can find security problems now. The high quality chaos is real."
Second that. The number of confidential security reports for KeePassXC has also gone up (though nothing major yet). Those AI reports used to be slop, but they are now mostly legitimate . We don't know which models are being used by the reporters, but occasionally, we get the same things reported multiple times within the span of just days.
The website is asking for your email address to access the downloads. We never ask for your email address. Do not enter your data there, it's a phishing attempt.
🚨 Warning: New FAKE website offering FAKE KeePassXC downloads! Do not fall for it. The correct domain is https://keepassxc.org without hypens!
New bugfix release: #KeePassXC 2.7.12. More information and full changelog at https://keepassxc.org/blog/2026-03-10-2.7.12-released/
To everyone experience issues with KeePassXC-Browser on Edge at the moment: We are aware of that. It's caused by a browser engine bug that has already been rolled back in other Chromium-based browsers, but not Edge. Please be patient, downgrade, or use this workaround: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc-browser/issues/2838#issuecomment-3788210495
It's a test run. We'll evaluate how popular this actually is and whether it's worth the hassle. :-)
Due to repeated request, we now support SEPA transfer and Wero as new donation methods. Want to support us? Go to https://keepassxc.org/donate/ 💰
Based on early feedback provided from the BSI (and similar requests in the past), KeePassXC version 2.7.11 (released two weeks ago) changed the default auto-lock setting after inactivity to "on" with a timeout of 15 minutes. Go to Settings -> Security in case you want to restore the previous behaviour.
Earlier this year, the German BSI together with the Consumer Advice Centre NRW performed a review of 10 popular password managers. What can we say? We're happy to be one of only few to receive a very positive review without major security concerns. 🥳 We're also mentioned explicitly for being particularly privacy-friendly.

The full report of the CSPN audit performed by Synacktiv on behalf of ANSSI is now available on our website. If you ever wanted to know how KeePassXC works under the hood, it should make for an interesting read with many annotated code examples.
New macOS DMG and AppImage builds have been posted as 2.7.11-1, which fix code signing and packaging issues.

The most notable new features are: support for more file types in the inline attachment viewer, the ability to edit text file attachments, a new database merge confirmation dialog, support for groups in KeeShare, and an option for automatically generating passwords in new entries.
🎉 We're very happy to announce our new release KeePassXC 2.7.11 and... *drumroll* that the KeePassXC version 2.7.9 has been awarded a CSPN Security Visa by the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI). 🎉❤️🔒
