Obviously we’ll need at least one audience stand-in who just moved to the area and is immediately distrusted by the local community. Options include:

- FBI agent (X-Files, Twin Peaks)
- New sheriff (idk but i’m sure examples exist)
- Doctor (Northern Exposure, which apparently I really need to watch)
- Writer researching novel or family history (can’t be arsed to pick just one example)

What else do we have? 🤔

yes hello i would like to order a TV series set in the hinterlands of Alaska in the late 1990s

the aesthetic should be X-Files adjacent but without the bullshit alien-related main story arc

give me a small, inaccessible working-class town and chunky computers and satellite phones and a regional ISP whose service goes down regularly and weird danger a la Darkness Falls and lots of hidden family secrets in a style somewhere between Twin Peaks, Haven, and Gravity Falls

thank you in advance

I'm reminded of a lyric from the song Vagabond Moon:

"What a fine thing to make love and survive"

Sitting in the woods watching leaves fall and listening to the sound of a nearby stream, I am reminded of how much of a miracle it is that we are all alive, here, now, together.

And that fact is no less of a miracle if you attribute it to random chance and the incredible age of the universe than it is if you attribute it to the direct work of God.

And because I’m very tired today, all I have for #inktober2026 today is a nerdy minimalist visual pun.

Panic. #Inktober

Belated day 6 of #inktober2026. Running a day behind, feeling very tired, and I truly had no ideas in my head that weren’t Shrek.

All the same: ogre.

#Inktober

Bonus: I tried doing a simpler version that captured the slightly Haring-esque aspects of the stick figure and the handprint, but I overdid the flatness of the fingertips (which was mostly unintentional in the first one) and I don’t like the finger spacing as much, even though the fingers are more regular.

Also, I just kind of like the messiness of the first try? That’s a new feeling. But something about that feels more like "art" to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Day 5 of #inktober2026:

Smack. #Inktober

Is it perfect? No. Am I satisfied with it? No, I already know a number of things I’d do differently if I did it again.

But I don’t hate it, AND I learned something making it, AND making this one made me want to make better ones. I’m calling this one a win.

Day 4 of #inktober2026:

Cactus. #Inktober

In theory I have a plan for today’s prompt that should be less… like that… but we’ll see how it goes. 😬

Belated Day 3 of #inktober2026, rendered—albeit unintentionally—in the style of Cecilia Giménez.

Miniature. #Inktober

Day 2 of #inktober2026: Near miss on the sizes of the screen and the scroll wheel, and I’m not sure what happened with the weird texture areas at right and bottom-right. 😅

Also, did you know acrylic markers bleed on wood and the combination is not suitable for detailed work? 🤔

On the other hand, one internet point to the first person to reply with the name of the album.

Relic. #Inktober

(I’ll also try to work out a better way to photograph these. 😅)

I didn’t have much time today and also at first I tried something more complicated and it was a disaster. (I have 36 regular acrylic markers, 12 pastel, and 12 metallic, and absolutely zero idea how any of them work together.)

So my first entry for #inktober2026 is childishly simple. Most of the others probably will be too. Nevertheless:

Apple. #Inktober

For those who are participating in #Inktober: do you feel it’s intended to be completed with one specific ink/source (e.g., a single pen)? Is it cool to use other media like acrylic markers?

Hot take: the words "spooky" and (ugh) "spoopy" and the accompanying orange and black plastic crap are identifying marks of unserious people who can’t handle the fact that Halloween is fundamentally about fear, death, and the unknown.

I can't believe I've woken up to another day of It not Happening.

I'm really really sick of "AI"-powered tools taking actions that would be clearly actionable or outright criminal if performed by a human, and their creators and controllers experiencing no consequences.

The person responsible for installing, instantiating, or directing a particular instance should be personally liable for all of its behavior.

If your bullshit AI-powered security camera harasses people while they're standing on a public sidewalk, it deserves to get smashed and it's gonna.
