We've been watching 'Bocchi the Rock!', after I saw fan art often enough. It's funny, cute, and relatable for me. Bocchi is only slightly more introverted than I was as a teenager.

I installed kiwix-desktop. (Because I have Gentoo Linux very newly installed that meant I had to build qtwebengine overnight — I'm glad it did end up working.)

Now I can look up all sorts of stuff for my writing without ending up on watchlists.

There's the Kardashev Scale, which measures a civilization by their ability to master increasingly large sources of energy.

Then there's the Barrow Scale, which measures a civilization by their ability to master increasingly small realms of the universe ("gross" physics, molecules, atoms, subatomic particles, fundamental quantum phenomenon...)

Why is there not such a qualifier for increasing mastery of our inner selves? I have theories. I have concerns (absolutism, one-wayism, bias, bigotry etc. etc.) but...

What if we just all agreed that the measure of a person and their society is self-mastery?

Based off of the Firefox translation models, so tragically it won't translate or transliterate pinyin (will translate 我不知道
but not "wo bu zhidao" or "wǒ bù zhīdào"), but otherwise high quality, does images. UI could use a bit of freshening and the camera UI is slightly glitchy but it's a darn sight better than whatever DeepL is doing. Actually this is really nice, it would compliment Google Translate well even if I still used that.

... and I think that when people do stuff that gets their work labeled "unapproachable," it's because what they're doing is very important to them. It's part of the point of their work. James Joyce was experimenting the way he did because he wanted to play with or push how a story is conveyed. Asking him or others to make their works more approachable is asking them to give up on what they want to write and to write something different.
