At least there is a live-stream, but I am really getting fomo from missing out on XDC in person this year... :neocat_floof_sad_low_ears:

Accepting contributions requires a certain level of trust towards any contributor from the rest of the community. Previously the work required to make a significant contribution acted as some barrier to filter out low-quality contributions. If you were determined to put in the work, you most likely wanted to do a good job, which reflected itself in the contribution. If your tokens are just a commodity to get a job done, that depends on the individual much more..

No matter if you think that was a good thing or not (gate-keeping like this has it's fair share of problems), LLMs completely shattered this barrier. So for a project with limited maintainer bandwidth and focus on longevity and thus maintainability, banning LLMs just makes sense from a technical viewpoint.

And that completely ignores all the ecological and ethical reasons, which Nura stands for, so I am really happy, that they take a strong stance here.

Them: Wow your Wifi is fast, what standard is this?
Me: I dunno, 6..7?

(Am I doing this right, kids?)

I swear FOSS discourse has evolved into the same reactionary infighting seen in leftist spaces. It is wild to me, how a bunch of people scream “nazi bar”, when a certain guest speaker in the KDE space brings up Omarchy as a bad example and publicly denounces DDH.

And then extending on that thought with “I knew he wasn’t trustworthy, when he mentioned having worked for Google and Apple” (not a direct quote) after also stating that they are working for notable open source projects. The notion, that somebody needs to have been a FOSS-evangelist since their very birth is absolutely ridiculous.

Sorry to be age-ist about this, but some of you clearly never have tried to get their Wifi-Stick working with ndiswrapper and it shows. Almost nobody knew what Linux was 25 years ago. There was no money in open-source, big tech wasn’t as big as today and actually driving innovation. *I* and many people I knew, wanted to work at Apple or Google when I was a teenager. And that wasn’t something you had to be morally defensive about.

Are we really blaming people for trying to make a living?

And of course all of this has a heavy overlay with the most insufferable parts of the Anti-AI crowd, but I don’t have it in me to go there today.

Code for this madness, if anybody else wants to have a go: https://codeberg.org/drakulix/drm-lease-hack

(And yes it would probably be nicer to do the same thing by proxying the dbus-system socket and intercepting logind calls, but that is far more involved and might need more permissions and/or namespaces. This is just a POC.)

If somebody actually wanted to support this upstream, we probably need nested drm-leasing in the kernel and then "simply" extend logind's multi-seat support to allow splitting DRM_MASTERs like this.

Back to committing compositor crimes.

(Couple of notes:
- Compositor binaries are unchanged.
- Yes both screens are touchscreens and work in their respective desktops.)

"No way to prevent this", says the only community with frequent lice incidents.

So my talk about Wayland, MicroVMs, Vulkan and OSX is now online for everybody, who missed it: https://media.ccc.de/v/2026-638-of-wayland-microvms-and-more-running-linux-applications-on-osx #mrmcd

Thanks for the wonderful feedback so far, it seems to have found it's niche.

(A second reminder will probably come in form of a blog post expanding on the talk at some point in the future.)

There main reason we need a good geoclue2 replacement, is that we need to make vkcube spin the other way around in the southern hemisphere.

The existence of Coke Zero implies the existence of Coke One.

Käsespätzle are just German Mac'n'Cheese. Change my mind

Obligatory Pre-Conf Post for MRMCD: I like to meet new people at these events, but I know how awkward it can be to approach somebody, I feel the same. :neocat_floof_exclamation_mark:

So this is an explicit invitation to reach out via text or just talk to me at the event! :neobot_happy:

OH @soller : The Cybertruck is a perfectly constructed mobile crematorium. You put the person in the trunk and stick a fork into the battery.

Lepton running! (with angle/swiftshader unfortunately so far)

I guess I have a blog now.

So I'll be in Warsaw for the work over the next week. Any recommendation for fun stuff to do in the city?

I mean.. I don't need a new phone right now, but whyyy does Samsung of all companies start to make a phone with an interesting size (Fold 8) right after locking down their bootloaders...

(I always am on the look out since my preferred form factor (small) is very rare these days and I wanna know my options once I have to switch eventually.)

Edited to lower the file size of the post. If you want the full resolution glory: https://f.drakulix.de/share/gnome-kde-handshake/cursed%20painting%20commission.jpg

I give you "The Epic Gnome ❤️ KDE Handshake".

This is probably the silliest thing I ever commissioned, send some love to @trans_lykanthropie for drawing this. :neocat_heart:

This is free for any personal use and for commercial use related to both Gnome and KDE depicting neither overtly negatively as long as the artist is mentioned.

@gnome :celeste_hearts_og_pride: @kde

Eigong Phase 3 is probably the hardest metroidvania fight I have ever done. But it is amazing how even that one went from “how the hell are you supposed to do any of this” to “wow this was clean!” on the successful run. Masterful fighting system, also very fun exploration at times with a very unique style. Highly recommended.

The counter system was so great, maybe I should give Sekiro a try after all…
