Went for my first ride in six weeks!
I've been avoiding it due to the wet season and being 1,000 km overdue for a service, but the trickle charger wasn't working so the alternator had to do.
When I pressed the starter, she spluttered a bit, then roared to life. A 60-minute ride later and the battery is nice and topped up again. Lucky I didn't put it off any longer.
Great ride, anyway. I missed the Central Queensland heat.

Day 1 is done and dusted. Just under 500 km (310 mi) in just under 6 hours. Beautiful day for riding, but saw very few other riders about.
One week to go before my biggest motorcycle trip yet.
I bought a touring bag that straps to the sissy bar. Now I have more luggage space than ever! I've also added a Sena 60S intercom to my Arai XD-4 helmet.
Not looking forward to the heat though. My route will take me through areas that have recently reached 40°C (104°F), and it isn't even Summer yet. 😬

The Royal Enfield Bullet 650 has been announced!
It's a looker, but as expected, is very similar to the Classic and Super Meteor 650 bikes.

What kind of fuel economy does your motorcycle get? Does it vary much between commuting and highway riding?
My commute is 7 km (4 mi), and my Harley gets about 7 L/100 km (33 mpg). That's 188 km (117 mi) per tank.
On the other hand, highway and backroad riding gets about 4.7 L/100 km (50 mpg). That's 280 km (174 mi) per tank—a huge difference!
Sometimes I miss my Grom's 2.2 L/100 km (107 mpg) fuel economy. But then again, it wasn't a very practical bike. 😁

I missed the date, but Wolfenstein 3D turned 30 years old on May 5th. Happy birthday to one of the most iconic and influential games of all time!
Wolf3D was one of the first games I ever played as a kid. I actually thought it was scary - I was very young, and unprepared for a game where foes shoot you face-to-face. 😁
I haven't played it in around 15 years now, but I remember it holding up well at that time. The mazes become a bit of a slog, but the core gameplay is 10/10.
My Honda Grom's registration is up for renewal: $480 AUD ($309 USD). I don't think I've ridden it since July last year, and I haven't ridden my Honda CRF300 Rally since getting the Harley.
I don't really *want* to get rid of them, but I don't really see myself riding them either. The registration and insurance costs are burning a hole in my wallet. 🤔
Biloela QLD was a bit of a mixed bag.
On one hand, the Spirit of the Land mural and "The Boy from Biloela" tribute to actor Bille Brown are pretty cool.
On the other, I visited THREE Biloela servos in a row:
* None of them had any Ice Break (the world's greatest beverage)
* One of them couldn't serve any petrol
* Another was some kind of kebab shop that also happened to sell Mobil
Biloela is a bit of an odd place.
After riding 360 km yesterday, I decided to stay in Mount Morgan for the night. Would've gone further, but it was getting a bit late, and I was getting tired.
Had a good night's sleep in the new swag. Nice and warm, despite the cold Mount Morgan air.

I've been trying to avoid riding my Harley. I'm planning a trip of up to 4,000 km in April, but the next service is due in 5,500 km. I've basically been rationing the difference of 1,500 km so I can get the bike serviced when I return. Motorcycle mechanics will be few and far between where I'm going.
But not riding my new bike sucks. Maybe I should just ride it as much as I want, then get it serviced straight before and after the trip?
What would you do?
So I got cruise control installed on my Harley.
I've never used a vehicle with cruise contol before. It's WEIRD. I turn it on, release the throttle, and it just keeps going - maintaining perfect speed. Feels unnerving after using throttle locks.
It's also very clear that this isn't safe to use in traffic. It'd be way too easy to rear-end somebody by accident.
I'll save it for the quiet highways. 🛣️
I'm dropping the Harley off at the dealership today to get cruise control installed.
Soon I won't need caps lock anymore. 😎
This Giant Daddy Long Legs spider (Artema atlanta) crawled up on me at a pub in Rockhampton, QLD, Australia.
I've never seen one before - it's fae bigger than the regular household Daddy Long Legs spiders.
She was very relaxed, and happy to just chill out on my hand.
