Androgoneous Spacecraft docking because neither the US or Russia wanted to be the "Female" docking part.

I know a lot of stupid Space shit, but I was today years old when I learned this.

who called it "senior developers" and not "old men yelling at claude"?

Wizards of the Coast has really been dropping the ball on a whole new segment of D&D players: Retirement Communities. You got millions of people all hanging out in the same place all the time with nothing to do. Get them into TTRPGs.

Make large print versions of key books, oversized high contrast dice, screen reader friendly books, market your stuff to elderly people, whatever.

For my birthday, my brother-in-law gave me a 4992-digit hex number that, when used as a seed for Python’s random number generator, makes it so that printing a sequence of “random” ASCII characters actually prints a birthday greeting.

I find it rather amazing that this is possible!

This is the program he sent with the seed:

with open("seed.txt", encoding="ascii") as handle:
seed = int(handle.read().strip(), 0)
r = random.Random(seed)
pending = ""
while True:
character = chr(r.randrange(128))
if pending + character == "\x1e\x1f":
break
print(pending, end="")
pending = character
print()

I'm teaching our grad intro PL course for the first time (!) starting this Friday, and I'm gonna do it *my* way, and I'm both scared and excited. It's going to be a *lot* of work. For me, I mean. (And possibly for them! But definitely for me.)

Get ready to read some motherfucking TAPL! There's gonna be some Mike Hicks blog posts from 2015 up in this bitch! Wadler and Blott 1989? You know it! The "From System F to Typed Assembly Language" paper? Abso-fucking-lutely we will

Guys guys guys! You won't believe what happened! I saw a junior software engineer write code that not only compiles but mostly works! This is amazing, we don't need senior software engineers anymore, think of the savings!

This is what you lot sound like

Yes, the guy that resurrected UMN #gopher is at it again. This time, I've made the first new #Kermit release in 15 years! https://changelog.complete.org/archives/44456-celebrating-45-years-of-kermit-with-the-first-new-c-kermit-release-in-15-years-and-working-with-a-decades-old-c-codebase This protocol, originally for serial lines, lives on and I use it as a powerful ssh wrapper daily. I added a modern test suite, fixed a ton of bugs, added IPv6 support.

And, rather to my surprise, ENJOYED working in a legacy #C codebase.

TIL: Baklava Code

You've heard of spaghetti code: Tangled strands with little structure.

But have you heard of baklava code? Thousands of fragile sticky layers. Some of them are nuts.
