So, I've recently acquired around 1000 #vinyl #LPs. Quite a crazy mix of old records from artists I've (mostly) never heard of.

What's the best way to find out of there are any rare jems in there? I don't want to search all the various streaming music catalogs to find out if there's digital copies in circulation, but I don't want to put them in a landfill either.

I don't have the time or energy to list them all on eBay -- and deal with shipping and other nonsense.

I have the equipment to digitize them, but again, not the time for the huge effort of assembling an archive of every album.

Any insights would be appreciated!

I'm interested in making a donation of physical media -- but there's apparent way to reach a human. Their account on your Mastodon server shows no posts/follows, etc. I've checked their incorporation records, but they're all pointing at a law office in Toronto.

I began donating to #Wikipedia through #Wikimedia Foundation after threats against it from fascist shitbags in the USA, several years ago.

I just sent them a request to cancel my donation because I don't approve of their #unionbusting tactics.

I invite others to do the same and let their displeasure be known.

Hey #OPSEC and #Infosec folks…. Something weird happened to a friend and I want a second opinion. This weekend, they received a creepy message from an unknown phone number from the same area code that said….

“Hey , [Firstname] did I just see you crossing [major street in their neighbourhood]?”

Clearly, the person who sent it knew their name, approximate location where they lived, and their mobile phone number, and provided zero info about who they were, and never followed up.

To me, this feels like some sort of confirmation attack — verifying the number is active, the name and location of the recipient….

Is this a known thing, or is my OPSEC dial turned up too far?

My friend's child was born female, but as they approached puberty, identified as a male, and asked to be called by a traditionally male name.

Which is no different than someone saying "Don't call me Charles, my friends call me 'Chuck'."

How does someone asking you to use a different name affect you?

How does their choice of bathroom affect you?

How does their choice of clothing affect you?

How does their choice to take medication that helps them transition affect you?

The answer to all of those, for me at least, is "Not at all". None of those things have any impact or practical effect on my life. What is the affect on yours?

I find myself being very angry lately. I think I have good reason...

• There's a war AND a genocide that nobody wants to decisively stop.
• In many western countries, there's an increase of xenophobia, racism, homophobia, and other hate.
• Fascism is on the rise. But... we had a war about this, and fascism lost -- at an incalculable cost. How do people not remember that?
• Quality of life is dropping like a stone - environmental degradation/climate change, essential government institutions are being dismantled, wages aren't keeping up with cost of living.
• Billionaires are fucking everything up because their greed simply cannot be satiated.
• Human rights are being infringed/diluted - every single aspect of a human life is being monitored, tracked, monetized, and sold.

How are you folks dealing with all this?

I received TWO phishing messages for different online web brokerage companies, and they look quite authentic.

But I'm not a client of those companies, so I knew it was a scam.

Please remind your friends and family members not to click on links in eMail, ESPECIALLY if they're urgent or threatening dire consequences.

A young friend of mine stopped by the house today, with two friends in tow... They're all under-20s, and they were talking about renting a boat for the afternoon. I told them they'd need some government ID, & the oldest showed me their driver's license...

I categorically reject the idea that anyone was born after the year 1999. Thinking about it makes me feel ancient.

In the few minutes they were here, I managed to refer to at least two things that don't exist anymore.

Further to a reply I wrote earlier today…

Trump and Netanyahu are kickstarting nuclear proliferation.

Ukraine gave up its nukes, Russia attacked, and now the US is yanking aid in violation of the Budapest agreement.

Iran gave up its nuclear weapons program as part of successful diplomacy, Trump cancelled the agreement, Israel & USA bombed their peaceful nuclear power programs, despite evidence there was no weapons program.

And now, as a result, everyone needs nukes. Well done, dumbasses.

So, Ontario & Quebec will be under extreme heat alerts this week, A/C units and heat pumps will be working overtime.

GENTLY wash the external units to clean off dust, pollen, lint, etc. and keep their efficiency high and your house cool!

I use the word “gently” because you don’t want to damage the aluminum fins on the units - air needs to freely pass through in order for it to work properly.

So, I mention this because it's probably not top-of-mind...

But Alaska and Yukon are on fire, in a really, really big way...
