especially as it raises questions like "I don’t have a television, I am an international student and I don’t speak German, why the fuck should I actively fill out forms to pay for this"
but no god forbid they pay for that from taxes because you know who paid for the public broadcasting system from taxes? the Nazis! and we’re not Nazis aren’t we???

@sam the explanation is that they also provide a website with news and the free online streaming service with that money so any internet connected device can access it
@sam (i do agree it should just be paid from taxes but this is the reason why the "i don't have a tv or radio" isn't accepted for an exception anymore)

Rundfunkbeitrag is a type of tax.
Now I will absolutely tell you that is is done badly and that it is a system that really needs to change because it's a per screen payment and nowadays a computer counts as a screen and that is really dumb. Not to mention the various other things that are kinda wrong with it.
