In order to fulfil the obligations of this group, here's a tardigrade video https://mstdn.party/@Crystal_Fish_Caves/117374896492201065

This is how you do it. Not only are they planting out native trees, but:

"The charity owns a solar farm to power the town's waste water plant and returns earnings back to the community, and several energy efficiency projects including a curtain bank and repair shop."

& this pont:

"If you expect the government to change things fast, you're dreaming because it's like turning a container ship [...] where a community can just swing the waka [Māori canoe] pretty quickly"

The KollapsCamp in North Brandenburg, Germany, kicks off tomorrow. The program looks incredible:

On that note, a little tardigrade tells me that some there will be working on a shiny new German language Collapsible Systems wiki, and that this might be the URL :)

A good climate projection map here for those of us in Aotearoa NZ using some reasonably current models. Unlike other projections I've looked at this provides for diverse variables and across 3 usefully scoped scenarios.

It's clear the West Coast of the South Island will become increasingly desireable, however much adaptation will be needed to mitigate for inland and coastal flooding, landslides due to the extreme rainfall.

We knew that without a global push to reduce emissions that this would come for Europe, although perhaps not quite so soon. None could anticipate the actual experiences lived by folk, nor the contingencies introduced.

Winter here, already too warm. A curious thing in a lifetime to grow afraid of the coming Summer.

If you're in the area (Berlin), this might be something for some of you.

Among other things, there are rare jammers from the GDR era—they kind of reminded me of big industrial refrigerators from a distance....

Our civil emergency institutions sure need some love but at least upper management isn't at risk of suddenly being teleported to a waffle house.

Going to chalk that up as a win

We have between 20 & 27 days of physical onshore fuel stocks left. Here is an excellent guide written by the Wise Response Society to prepping for what's to come, should the fuel run out.

Hearing some incredible stories of oil tankers en route to supply a country turning around mid journey after getting an offer from a higher bidder.

Seems like model collapse is coming up fast on the inside lane, to overtake financial and ecosystem collapse as leading threat to our world...

A look at the rising denialism among the political class in Europe, despite rising #climate awareness and public calls for accountability and adaptation.

The interception of the far right, spinning warming into a culture war, in turn driving up avoidance and cowardice among politicians and policy makers, continues to be a critical impediment to not just mitigation but also adaptation.

Early data from a new Antarctic ice core sample taken by scientists indicates that the West Antarctic ice sheet partially or completely broke into the ocean during a prior era of warming.

The same event is predicted before or by 2100, within the lifetimes of many children today, and is expected to raise sea levels 4-5 meters. The new data however will provide more precision as to when this event would occur.

First they talked about how the 100 year storms were coming every 10 years

Then they came every 5

Then every year

Then every month

And so they started to talk about the periods of calm

Which came every month

Then every year
