    I got a text from a stranger today. I've changed the names:

    Jane: Hi, it's Jane. We're gathering Americans' thoughts on the U.S.-Israel relationship. Open to a quick chat? Stop2End

    Quasit: What organization are you with?

    Jane: I'm volunteering with Stand Together for Truth - we're a supporter group focused on correcting misinformation and sharing accurate information about Israel and the Middle East.

    [I immediately looked up "Stand Together for Truth" and found that it's a pro-Israel group started by Charles Koch.]

    Jane: The United States and Israel are seeking to hold Iran in check. Iran is the world's largest sponsor of terrorism, and if it is allowed to pursue a nuclear weapon, it could drag the region into wider conflict and put Americans at greater risk.

    Do you think confronting Iran now actually helps America avoid a bigger war later, or do you worry it's the opposite?

    Quasit: I don't agree with your assumptions.

    Jane: Iran is the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, and a nuclear Iran is exactly the kind of threat that pulls Americans into wars we can't avoid. Holding Iran in check now, alongside Israel and other partners, is what keeps that wider conflict from reaching our shores. Israel shares intelligence and defense capabilities with us that directly strengthen American security, which is why the partnership matters regardless of how the region shifts.

    Quasit: Israel is known to have many nuclear weapons, and their Samson option is intended to bring about a full thermonuclear exchange. I worry more about the US and Israel's nuclear weapons than about the possibility of Iran acquiring them despite their former leader's fatwa. A leader who was murdered by the US and israel.
