Mouse season. The mice like to move into my house at this time of year, and being catless, I'm left with trapping them.

The trapped mice go up on the crow platform, and are collected within hours. I also put out peanuts at that time, in the hope that the crows will come for peanuts. But if I leave out peanuts regularly, the jays will collect all of them very quickly, as they stash them for winter.

So just a handful of peanuts when a side of mouse is available.

@johnefrancis man how would you even do that? Like they're both corvids. I guess if you could derive some sort of skill testing question that only a crow could answer. Man. Do that, let me know how it goes.

@adr I've got "American Crows" and Ravens here.

I've seen a project where jays were taught to deposit coins into a feeder to receive peanuts. If the jays are willing to pay $0.25/peanut, then I would be willing to refill on demand.

Maybe a feeder that works by offering a live crow selfie video alongside pre-recorded selfie video of other crows, and if the live one is selected, the feeder dispenses peanuts?

@johnefrancis Mrs. Patrick and I have been keeping a tracker of all our kills for years. It has been improving and we do not know why.

I really wish I could figure out why some years are so mouse boom or so mouse bust?
