I dislike the current practice of using ONLY interest rates to target ONLY inflation. Other places include employment levels as part of their interest rate calculation. There are other tools for price stability, but they've all been tossed out by neoliberalism, the extreme form of capitalism currently practiced.
That's led to the current mess, where capital returns are too high, and labour share is too low.
Heard a bit on a podcast today about how Canada's core inflation is stuck below target range, while total inflation, which includes volatile food and energy prices, is above target range.
I haven't verified that at StatsCan, but that's the reason why many commenters are feeling the Bank of Canada jumped the gun on raising rates.
Even if this "blitz" level of enforcement was ongoing over all of #ottawa, it still would barely make a dent. The tools are inadequate, and police are too expensive.
Ford's #Ontario govt has been terrible, weakening commercial driver training, removing automatic speed cameras, not indexing fines, opposing #VisionZero and complete streets, and dozens of other failures to act.

Mouse season. The mice like to move into my house at this time of year, and being catless, I'm left with trapping them.
The trapped mice go up on the crow platform, and are collected within hours. I also put out peanuts at that time, in the hope that the crows will come for peanuts. But if I leave out peanuts regularly, the jays will collect all of them very quickly, as they stash them for winter.
So just a handful of peanuts when a side of mouse is available.
Had terrible travel on AirCanada for a family vacation in July 2025. Delayed on every leg to Newfoundland and back. Filed for compensation, AC rejected. Filed complaint with regulator. In September 2026, AC offered to settle for $2100, provided we dropped the complaint.
Did not drop complaint, since AC rejected the pre-complaint opportunity. Today AC ordered by regulator to pay $2100, and the complaint is resolved, but stays in the records and stats.

I'm still years away from wearing out my 2019 ICE Subaru. It was US made. I see Subaru introducing a number of EV models that would be suitable replacements, but they are quite expensive and also US made. Zero possibility of acquiring one of those unless there is a huge shift in circumstances. I'm glad I have time to wait.
