Are the firefox designers popping a lot of pills lately?!

This looks terrible. These enormous rounded corners are so disruptive, wastes so much space by making it necessary to constantly bump things out of the grid. I can see literally no utility in this whatsoever.

And why are there random clock icons all over everything?! This is not good information design. You seem to be just copying random features from infantile, annoying smart-phone apps and pasting them into a _desktop application_ which has a long (boring sure, but basically usable) tradition of interface culture.

Perhaps I'm showing my age, but it just feels like a desperate grasp at some kind of faux-naive, awkward chic that will be out of style in 6 weeks.

But I guess "form follows function" has now become "form follows cheap novelty marketing". Pfft.

@praxeology i want software that are outside of tech-design trends, don't need to change (only purely technical updates), lacking functions instead of having functions i don't need.

isn't there any firefox fork that's done with this in mind? i guess they then have to backport the changes from mozilla but idk

@doriane @praxeology its a different direction design wise but I switched to the Firefox fork called @zenbrowser like two years ago and haven't looked back. They have done an impressive job keeping updated with all the underlying gecko engine and they pretty much dropped all of the Firefox interface design and went their own direction. But they are also on the edge of a different design trend wave that many don't like (tho I very much do)

@liaizon @praxeology @zenbrowser ah yeah just went on their website and it's like "productivity at its best" with link preview and smooth animations and split window and a bunch of side buttons with liquid glass effect. i'm afraid i'm one of the person for who this isn't the vibe haha.

guess my kink is when the UI feels blocky and raw, like some floss software from 2006 type of shit, bonnus is the logo is a cute mascot a bit akwardly drawned.

@doriane @praxeology @zenbrowser the whole front end of zen is customizable with CSS snippet extwntuon things so you could make it look as blocky as you liked and put a wonky mascot spinner in the chrome much easier then any of the alternatives I have seen. It's also not a for profit company. DDG isn't really doing anything browser wise other then rebranding already existing software.
