Oct 18, 2026, 7:23 AMSaying "nobody should be forced to use LLMs" is like saying "if you don't like tobacco, don't smoke it" on an airplane where people are smoking tobacco.

Discussing hypothetical "reasonable & ethical" LLM usage only feeds into slopaganda narratives and fundamentally misunderstands the problem. The only way some comparable technology might be "reasonable & ethical" is if the model was not Large, but then you're not talking about a Large Language Model.

In a world where the biggest companies in the world are getting away with not even respecting the most basic copyright license requirement of attribution, imagine thinking that the solution is a new copyright license.

Posters on random street poles are exhibiting stronger leadership than Slopware Freedom Conservancy.

When they posted their Hot Take About AI (https://sfconservancy.org/llm-gen-ai/llm-backed-generative-ai-recommendations.html), I thought it was misguided but didn't really have the bandwidth to care. But after seeing bkuhn harass someone over criticism, I'm disgusted with the organization.

Their recommendations are self contradicting. #1 says communities should support people who refuse bullshit generators while #2 says people should be allowed to make their own decisions about using bullshit generators. The Parable of the Nazi Bar does not start with "well that one guy has a nazi belief but he's not saying it now so we'll tolerate him". No. As soon as you identify the nazi, you kick him the fuck out. https://blog.fallible.net/it-breaks-a-village/

Making a safe space for people who refuse bullshit generators means no tolerance in the space for usage of bullshit generators. No means no, no exceptions.

The onslop of bullshit generators shoved in our faces is a conspiracy pushed by a rape cult in an effort to erase the concept of "no" from public discourse.

Oct 18, 2026, 5:29 PM@be I guess it's more a signal to the remaining reasonable developers, like a contribution policy and code of conduct.
- Oct 18, 2026, 5:31 PM
@tjk That's trivially achievable without a new legal document. Just put in your README/CONTRIBUTING.md: "No slop allowed".

alcinnzalcinnz@floss.socialOct 18, 2026, 10:55 PM@be I suppose if the "AI"-evangalists stopped shoving slop in my face, stopped insisting to my face that I'm the foolish one for resisting their limited understanding of technological-progress... I'd have better things to do then criticize their use of it elsewhere!

Resunaresuna@ohai.socialOct 20, 2026, 10:48 AMI wonder if that's the same guy I ran into on some repo (I forget which now) who was vibe-patching as a social experiment.
Reminds me of that jerk back in the '90s right after Canter and Seigel's "Patient Zero" spamming run who started spamming Usenet "as performance art" and demanded that the special nature of their "art" demanded it be allowed.

Oct 18, 2026, 10:41 PM@be 'Slopware Freedom Conservancy' is how I will refer to them from now on. Thanks for that great naming choice!
