Misunderstandings happen. I was merely expressing my paranoia of tech companies in this day and age, my suspicion that the only reason they (Mapquest) would do such a thing is to get people to download the latest version because they've put their own updated surveillance tools in it. Half joke, half serious. Sorry if it didn't land.

@corbden The post I replied to specifically said "Google owned Mapquest". But the thread now appears to be broken and that post is not visible (at least to me). If it wasn't from you it may have been a multiple user reply, unfortunately those are easily confused on Mastodon. Sorry about that.

@corbden I deal with a LOT of replies, the ones with multiple users on them do not always seem to be handled by Mastodon in a fully deterministic manner ...

@lauren Yeah, it's a huge problem with decentralization. Propagation is not consistent, so it can get hard to figure things out. It must be even worse on a big account.
