Trimming day!

Trimming - even just a little - really refines a piece. I try to be efficient in my throwing, but especially with shapes like this, trimming off excess clay from the base makes the pot feel lighter and lifted off the surface. Definitely more inviting to the eye and hand.

5 untrimmed tan stoneware clay wheel thrown vases drying on a table. They feel a little squat and heavy as there is excess clay at the base from when they were thrown.

My wheel filled with tan stoneware clay shavings. Wooden handled trimming tools are sitting on the wheel pan. On the wheel is a giffen grip mini which makes holding the pots for trimming easier.
