    RE: tldr.nettime.org/@tante/117444

    What I find most interesting is a phrase like «This is NOT some kind of “social warrior” project, never has been, and never will be.». If you lurk on /r/linux, you can see the general right-wing sentiment growing, complaining about "political" or social issues getting raised. There is a clear, slow direction that the leadership of the project is taking, and, in his words, "the genie is out of the bottle".

    @RedGlow@mastodon.gamedev.place that’s how they always thought. they are just now comfortable to come out of their hiding (also an algorithmic bubble problem on unsocial media fuelling similar world views to the extreme).

    There’s one kind of guys that want a programming - "yes master" - slave machine and don’t care about consent. The reason why you cup your hand over your drink at the club…

    @helpsterTee You're surely right in pointing out that this is nothing new. I think the direction I was talking about is mostly about how the leadership is exposing their ideas, rather than the underlying currents of ideology. I see this as something similar to gamergate: the surfacing of an existing system that existed before and will keep existing afterwards.

    @RedGlow@mastodon.gamedev.place Ah okay, yeah!

    I also think he’s totally wrong about his audience, because many of us support Linux, because we see the freedom…from biggish corpo cages they want to put us in. So for many this is / was about social justice / equal opportunities. This is now the "I installed this kernel before Linus went crazy" sticker for your laptop (and not the Tesla this time) event…

    There is still valuable data to gather, we can still shame them and if I ever meet this Linus guy in person (unlikely) I will share my fair giveaways of fuck yous, like he did in the past with NVIDIA. Don’t think he cares from me, but still…moral compass needs alignment from time to time and that doesn’t happen without honest feedback
