#Monsterdon "There will be a man patrolling the grounds all night."
Not one of our men, of course. Some chap who dresses like a bat.

#Monsterdon "I just decided to redecorate my office like a diner."

#Monsterdon It's normal for mystery writers to have a whole staff of servants and to rent giant mansions, right?

#Monsterdon I would argue there's a very noticeable difference between the criminal "had no face" and the criminal "wore a mask".
Oct 12, 2026, 1:41 AM@apLundell You'd think so but this is #Monsterdon where such logic doesn't apply

#Monsterdon "Not with Andy on the job!"
That's right.

#Monsterdon "I'll bet you're thinking about it!"
Yeah, because you won't shut up about it!

#Monsterdon At first I thought it was silly for that room to be so airtight.
But then, the doors are movable fireplaces ... so maybe you would need it to be airtight so as to not fill the house with smoke?

#Monsterdon Yes, ma'am. I won't, ma'am.

#Monsterdon For a second, I thought they were going to do a fake-out ending where it turned out it was all a book she was writing, and the camera would pull back to reveal that all the dead people were still there.

#Monsterdon Slightly Disappointed by The Bat's costume.
In the 1930 version, he had a cape like Batman.
But even more disappointed by this Vincent Price "iced coffee" recipe. More like coffee and clove flavored iced milk. Not good.
- Andy L.apLundell@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 2:33 AM
In hindsight, I should have made a smaller batch. Now I've still got a quart of this left, and absolutely no desire to drink it.
In conclusion, do not put cloves in your coffee or your milk.
Void ChickenTaweret@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 2:35 AM@apLundell I would've gone with "or cinnamon"
- Andy L.apLundell@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 2:37 AM
@Taweret In hindsight, that would have been the smarter choice.
Somehow clove felt more authentically ridiculous.

Just remembered that both instant coffee and decaffeinated coffee were a lot worse in the old days.
They were worse in the year 2000, I shudder to think what they were like in the year 1965.
👻™ supreme goblin 🐊coriander@elekk.xyzOct 12, 2026, 3:22 AM@apLundell I just looked up what saccharin is
To me that's the worst part of this is the overload of artificial sweetener
- 👻™ supreme goblin 🐊coriander@elekk.xyzOct 12, 2026, 3:24 AM
@apLundell Cloves is a weird choice but I don't hate it, there's cloves in pumpkin spice
- 👻™ supreme goblin 🐊coriander@elekk.xyzOct 12, 2026, 3:27 AM
@apLundell WAIT I JUST REALIZED
This isn't brewed hot and then poured over ice, it's brewed hot and then let sit until it's room temperature and THEN poured over ice
That's awful
- Andy L.apLundell@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 3:27 AM
@coriander I'll admit I couldn't find actual saccharine tablets.
Turns out saccharine tabs came in different sizes anyway, and the recipe doesn't specify.
But Sweet & Low has a lot of saccharine in it, so I decided that one packet of S&L counted as one saccharine tab. (That would be about right if he was using 0.5gr tablets.)
I think I guessed right. The sweetness was about right. That wasn't one of the problems.
- Void ChickenTaweret@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 3:29 AM
@apLundell @coriander if you were gonna make subsitutions anyway you couldve used good coffee
- Andy L.apLundell@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 3:32 AM
@Taweret @coriander Using good coffee would not be in the spirit of the thing.
This recipe is very much about Price intentionally giving his guests terrible coffee.
- Void ChickenTaweret@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 3:24 AM
@apLundell I'm imagining burnt and acrid tasting but also dishwatery
- Void ChickenTaweret@timeloop.cafeOct 12, 2026, 2:29 AM
@apLundell me too
