#mathober day 11: Problem of Points (Teilungsproblem)

I may be completely wrong but if my understanding of the title is right, it's about dividing a pot of money after cancelling a game set up for certain number of rounds, n. There are several propositions for a correct ("just") ratio, each depending of the number of rounds a, b the players actually have won before cancelling the game.

For n =6, a=3, b=2, we can divide the pot 3 : 2 (as proposed by L. Pacioli), 7 : 5 (following N. Tartaglia) or (according to G. Cardano) 10 : 6. Or we can calculate like Fermat and Pascal, but the solution would automatically lead to the universe dissolving in an arithmetic cloud, so I decided only to show the last two of the Italian gentlemen's methods as you see in the number of shells.

Professor Huber, who was lecturing concrete mathematics back in the nineties, often said that some basic proofs (like say, of the law of sines) were so important (and so easy...) that you'd have to be able to perform them naked, in a palm tree's shadow, with a finger in the sand.
