Oct 10, 2026, 12:22 PMMy charity Protect Earth removes invasive species every year. The UK economy spends £4 billion a year doing the same, and yet plants such as cherry laurel can still be sold in garden centres to create quick-growing hedges.
Cherry laurel is easily spread by birds eating the berries. It forms dense clumps in woodlands and release cyanide, preventing other species from growing, harming soil and water courses.
We'd like to see it banned.
