Every leader at Apple needs to read this.

Once upon a time, for many years even when it had a pricetag, I installed the latest Macintosh OS on the day it was available. That was because it always had new useful features that addressed real problems. No kidding.

But it became a nuisance to do that because Apple decided they didn’t really like being a Unix, they needed a new look every year, & fixing bugs was less important than new apps.

@grumpybozo Unfortunately, stable software doesn't sell. Apple leaders know this. They know they aren't offering real improvements, but also, that they still have to try, or at least try to find something that *looks* like it's an improvement, because Apple is not enriched by people still using a G4 iMac in 2026.

Feature treadmills are a form of planned obsolescence, and one that fits particularly well in the product cycle of software companies. And Apple is a software company in a hardware company's suit.
