I am supporting all efforts to resist the US.

Ford is not to be trusted, however his populist messaging does resonate with some.

We don't really need to be attacking Team Canada right now.

How about we focus on the quislings or Ford's domestic record.

I am focused on Team Canada. The PM explicitly stated our strategy yesterday:

    cbc.ca/news/politics/carney-re

"When the Americans go to the negotiating table first, with the right attitude towards our industries and in a true partnership, of course we'll come to the negotiating table," Carney said.

Being provocative is not going to get them to change their attitude, as we've seen of both Trump and Ford, their only response to even merely perceived provocation is to escalate further.

Just like with one of his previous forays into international affairs - which is not a part of his job title - the airing of the Reagan Ad, this is just him trying to score domestic political points - Ford is DEEPLY unpopular in Ontario because of the Trump style corruption - but will actually hurt Canada's position!

Every time he does this he gets a tiny and brief bump in the polls. It's the same playbook as Trump: he is using this as an opportunity to deflect attention away from Ontario so he can do more corrupt shit.

Different players on a team play different roles.

Playing nice is once approach, but it has done absolutely nothing to get the US to bargain in good faith. Thinking that continuing with only that strategy is so limited and unlikely to change.

Worrying about blips in political polls in a province without an impending election is playing politics.

The reality is that Ford and Carney are saying the same thing, but using different words.

Danielle Smith on the other hand is not.

You're correct that different players play different roles, but they should all be listening to the coach, who themselves should be playing the whole field game rather than merely their position.

Ford is a vain populist. In his tiny lizard brain all he wants - just like his stupid brother - is to be adored. Just like Trump, daddy didn't give them any attention. So, is it politically rational to care about poll numbers when you're 4 years out from a possible election, particularly when you've temporally gerrymandered the Ontario election process in your favour? No. But Doug isn't a rational guy, he just follows the smell of money and doesn't care who's pulling the string or about he interests of those he is the leader of as long as people love him!

You're also correct that Smith isn't playing her part, but she's a separatist.

I wish I had your optimism. Unfortunately I've had the misfortune of dealing with Doug Ford since 2009 when he took an interest in politics and some on his staff for much longer than even that.

They care only about money. If Trump offered Doug $1 bn to join team USA he'd do it.

Doug LOVES Trump. You could even see it in the video of him chasing Trump when he came to Toronto in 2012. Doug has (had? Not sure if he sold it) property in Florida, and lived in Chicago after daddy bought a small American print shop to become the US subsidiary of DECO.

Again, I agree with your read of Ford.

I guess I should apologize for attempting to police the discussion.

    Sorry.
