"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" ~Arthur C. Clarke

Ever since I was young I accepted that, thinking "yeah, how many people really know how their cell phones or computers work?".

Throughout the several careers that I've held in my short life so far I've become ever more alarmed with the depths of peoples "it must be magic" or "its just a black box" explanations for seemingly ever more basic things.

As soon as something gets automated, further generations become baselined to that reality and seemingly become ignorant to how it works.

I've seen this with things like door locks. DOOR LOCKS!

"I just punch in the code and the door opens, what do you mean it needs a battery? There is a key hole? There was a key? I was supposed to keep that key?" was a conversation I've had with someone regarding their front door deadbolt.
