Some lovely moss I came across at the Lisa Tolman Wotton Nature Preserve on Little Deer Isle, Maine, an Island Heritage Trust property. There are few "easy" stretches on its trails - a lot of tree roots and rocks and ups and downs - but no particularly hard bits, either. It has lovely cedar groves.

A rounded clump, a bit over a foot across, of light green sphagnum or peatmoss with scattered spruce seedlings. It looks like a tiny fairy forest.

A large patch of the peatmoss dappled by sunlight on a forest floor . It has spruce seedlings and a couple of much bigger (but still small) bushes. There are a lot of fallen tree trunks behind it.
