I need to re-upholster my dining room chairs and was not having much fun shopping online: you can't really know the colors and definitely can't tell how it feels. And the prices - whoa! And then I discovered Ebb and Flow Fiber Arts. All their inventory is donated! My spouse was intrigued by the overlock sewing machine they had; I had my eye on the old treadle Singer. But we stayed focused and found the perfect fabric - 2.5 yards for $10! I suspect I'll have to visit them again.

Well, BHHT was busy this summer! We went back today to find that they have completely replaced the (inadequate and scary) boardwalks with actual bridges! Beautifully done!

We went to the Patten Stream Preserve, a Blue Hill Heritage Trust property back in May. The stretch of the north loop trail along Patten Stream was very, umm, tricky, especially with the high spring water level. We hit an impassible stretch and had to backtrack.

This mushroom would really like to be a flower.

#FungiFriday

Carter also had some very nice mushrooms. I didn't even think about eating any of them.

For #FootpathFriday some trails at the Carter Nature Preserve, a Blue Hill Heritage Trust property in Surry, Maine.

Rolling stones may not gather much moss, but old trees sure do! And sometimes some mushrooms. Those white specks in the moss are very smol mushrooms 🥲

Took the kitties in for their annual checkup and rabies and distemper shots. They're both in great health. Me, not so much. Hilo was big mad about the whole situation and managed to get me good with a claw into a vein on the back of my hand. "I get to treat a human today!" the vet said as she wrapped me up. Kona was not as mad, but both had an awful lot to say, none of it suitable for print 😹

@eclectech Ooh, just reminded of another - it was in somebody else's post. More a conclusion really: "fuck that shit"

@eclectech Not to be a troublemaker, but after seeing the variety in other languages in the FFS project, you may need to run a poll (or polls?) for English. What the fuck, oh my god, what fresh hell is this, for God's sake, Jesus fucking Christ - oh, we have so many!

When I come across glacial erratics, I try to imagine what it was like when they arrived. They were just sitting there minding their own business when a glacier, a miles thick mass of ice, picked them up and carried them miles away. Then the ice melted away, and they were in barren land, all the top soil scoured away, the rock underneath completely different than them. And now they're cozily covered with mosses and tree root cross below them and birds sing above.

Some lovely moss I came across at the Lisa Tolman Wotton Nature Preserve on Little Deer Isle, Maine, an Island Heritage Trust property. There are few "easy" stretches on its trails - a lot of tree roots and rocks and ups and downs - but no particularly hard bits, either. It has lovely cedar groves.

Do you have a direct interest in accessible voting in Massachusetts? The MA Office on Disabilities has shared that the Elections Division is having 5 Accessible Voting Equipment Vendor Fairs next week to try what's out there when it comes time to replace equipment.

The Elections Division told me these events are public, but they want to prioritize voters with disabilities and city/town election staff.

The Stuart Gross Trail takes you to the summit of Great Pond Mountain. Trees block the view at the actual summit, but there are lots of places along the way with slip rock cliffs where you can see forever. The mountain to the left of center is Blue Hill, and the mountains of Mount Desert Island (Acadia National Park) are on the horizon at the left.
Other than the 1000 foot altitude gain and tangled tree roots, it's a pretty easy trail.

It had a wonderful carpet of moss on its big flat top!

Look at this massive rock I found!

I wonder if it would make Those People upset if we called it "a melanin deficiency" instead of "white".
