The woman was wading upstream through a deep dip in the riverbed strewn with fallen logs and tangles of brush. She was pushing a long tandem kayak with a toddler on it. I carefully picked my way across the river rapids and quickly reached her. Her face was bright and beautiful but she was clearly exhausted and scared. I took the opposite end of the kayak and guided her across the rapids.

Meanwhile, my friend had parked their boat on the opposite bank and got the other 2 people ashore. 2/6>>
