I want to say the “Sky Father” was gendered male as a sociological construct, especially because weather as mercurial, unpredictable, and harsh out in the Levantine desert.
The Moon was feminine for more obvious, cyclical reasons.
I am •not• an expert.
@annyr @mcmullin As this page about the etymology of the word "god" states: "The word was originally neuter, but with the spread of Christianity it eventually became masculine when referring to the Christian god." Although using masculine linguistic gender conventions when referring to God, most (if not all) Abrahamic religions theologically acknowledge God as being beyond human concepts, including gender. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/gudą
