Contemplating which Linux to install on my teenage kid's laptop. Ubuntu is out, as I don't want to touch snaps ever again (been using Ubuntu myself for the past 20 years, thank you). So I'm thinking @debian, @fedora or @elementary.
She's an artist (so Krita, Shotcut, Inkscape), and she'll probably get used to any DE pretty quickly. What I do care about is drawing tablet support and color management. Is Wayland ready for this yet? Any artists care to share their setups?

As a status update: quite a few people recommended Mint (Ubuntu sans snaps), which is pretty tempting. Pop_OS! was another recommendation in the same vein. Fedora was also confirmed as a good choice for artists.

@isagalaev you might laugh at me, but I got Endeavor OS (Arch repos with a sensible installation process) on all my kids' machines. It works fine, for the most part. They're not complaining and they're way less afraid of the command line since they have to use it to install and update packages.

@alter_kaker never heard of it! Will give it a look, but I'm not really familiar with the Arch side of the Linux tree myself.

@isagalaev to be honest what really got me hooked is the repositories. It's not as stable as Debian but boy do you get a lot of stuff... Worth a try. But I won't install vanilla Arch again unless I have a good reason to, it's not worth the effort to me. But Endeavor automates that.

@isagalaev for example, Aseprite is available from the package manager, which ensure requirements are installed and builds it from source automatically.

@isagalaev I *think* that we got the Wacom tablet working but I'm not sure because they just use the touchscreen for drawing

Flatpak is pretty good and is a good way of getting current versions of packages like Krita or Inkscape on stable distros like debian.
I believe Elementary's primary install path for apps is via flatpak.
I'm biased toward Debian, but I've seen people recommend mint for newcomers.
I personally am cynical enough to enjoy the register's cynics guide to linux distros

@davidrevoy has a an art blog which occasionally talks about hardware and his setup

And this blog covers any FOSS creative arts software, and is a great place to learn of new programs.

@isagalaev @debian @fedora @elementary Go #Debian. It's the ultimate no-drama llama. It may be behind the bleeding edge, but everything just works.
