Florida catching shots lol and lmao

ye olde bike protest thread 🧵

someone is handing out samosas and naan

👀 I've been reading up on Mode S Transponders and 1090 MHz ADS-B stuff and while the nitty gritty protocol level details need 4 more shots of espresso than I am currently willing to drink to understand I think I understand the basics

and its cool that you can get this data with off the shelf equipment and software - RTL-SDR + dump1090 + Raspberry Pi and you can use pyModeS to decode it live like using Wireshark to look at IP packets

no idea what this means and looking it up isn't helping

uhhh...

this led me down a rabbit hole of what Brazilian commercial aviation situation looks like currently and from what I can tell its a oligopoly of three airlines LATAM Brasil, GOL, and Azul

I've flown on this Embraer model aircraft a few times now since Porter Airlines fleet is mostly Embraer E195-E2 at this point

nice planes, the engines sound like a whale when taking off/landing which to me is a cute little quirk [ its also noted on the Wikipedia page IIRC ]

this is on the front page of jetphotos.com today

Note from the photographer:

> A historic milestone for Brazilian aviation! LATAM Airlines Brasil and Embraer officially presented LATAM's first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft during a special media rollout event.

oh hey first time I've seen a ACARS message in German, I've seen English, Spanish, and French so far

RE: https://live.acarsdrama.com/@acarsdrama/117475090689057798

yeesh that's a rough medical situation, I hope everything works out for the passenger 😬

[ LGW = London Gatwick Airport ]

learning about TCAS/ACAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System/Airborne Collision Avoidance System) and it is pretty interesting

and then it led me to the Überlingen Mid-Air Collision incident from 2002 and boy howdy is this case of "regulations are written in blood" if I've ever seen one

and by blood I mean 71 people died in this mid-air collision which caused the new rule to be that if you get a Resolution Advisory from your TCAS that conflicts with what air traffic control is telling you to do, you *always* follow the TCAS instruction since
ATC's picture may be lagging behind and the planes' TCAS are talking to each other

[ if you wanna read up on the collision incident - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_%C3%9Cberlingen_mid-air_collision ]

the acronym explanations shall continue until I know Everything (which means until forever)

TLS = Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in France.

LGCIU1 = Landing Gear Control Interface Unit 1 (the A320 has two and will failover to second one so this is not an immediate issue but needs maintenance to fix which is what they are asking for)

RE: https://live.acarsdrama.com/@acarsdrama/117474599451042067

ffs, don't do this kinda shit

I've seen FAs and flight crew get very pissed off about this kinda thing while I was waiting at my gate for my flight to Orlando

this lady was filming the person at the gate who was letting people on board and then that person asked her to delete the photo/video and it was a whole thing

RE: https://live.acarsdrama.com/@acarsdrama/117474567695202306

acronym check, APU = Auxiliary Power Unit

APU is what usually provides power when the plane is on the ground (cockpit systems, air conditioning, air pressurization, spinning up main engines

so in this case, since their APU is inoperable they need to get ground power before they shut off main engines (so air conditioning doesn't die amongst other things)

RE: https://live.acarsdrama.com/@acarsdrama/117474288954622256

second time I've seen a curfew mentioned for this airport

BSL is this airport:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroAirport_Basel%E2%80%93Mulhouse%E2%80%93Freiburg

I'm curious what the curfew is because I don't see it on that Wikipedia page

ig today is the day of finding cursed airplane liveries

(and yes Zootopia counts as cursed in my eyes)

...Zootopia livery on a China Airlines Boeing 777-36NER

acronym check - pilot is asking for the weather (WX) at Bentonville Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA)

yeehaw!
